San Diego Companies

In our Company Spotlight series, we feature businesses in southern California that go above and beyond to create a positive work environment for their employees. These organizations know that work/life balance and wellness programs are what draw the best employees to join their company, be their best, and stick around. Know about a business that fits the bill? We’d love to hear about it!

Today, I’d like to tell you about UE.co, a tech company based in San Diego.

UE builds cutting-edge technology platforms and provides industry-leading marketing services for top companies in the insurance industry

The organization has been around since 2008, and they are happy to have found a home for their HQ in sunny SoCal, with its growing tech scene and beautiful beaches.

UE currently has 58 employees, but they are growing fast. In fact, they were recognized as one of the city’s fastest growing companies by San Diego Business Journal.

They’ve also been featured in Forbes, Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur, ADWEEK, and The Huffington Post.

Culture is the very core of the organization.

“We live by three values at UE,” explains Operations and Culture Manager Andy Johnson,

“Chasing Perfection, Continuous Improvement, and People Incubation. From striving for excellence within the business to ensuring our employees are as happy and healthy as possible, we try to go above and beyond every day.”

It’s no surprise that UE has been recognized as one of the “Best Places to Work” in San Diego

Work-life balance is extremely important to the organization, meaning they provide flexible work hours, remote options, and plenty of on and off-site activities to keep people energized.

They host monthly cultural events (both on and off-site), orchestrate paid volunteering opportunities, and hold scavenger hunts.

While at the office, employees are free to bring their dogs, enjoy subsidized meal plans cooked by an in-house chef, and they even have an in-house bar.

With perks like this, UE does not struggle with getting employees to take advantage of their wellness programming.

Their employees are always game to try something new and fun with their peers, especially if it’s an energizing break during the workday.

When asked how to create a successful wellness program, Johnson says it’s all about knowing your audience and leading the charge.

Simply put, try to “understand the different wants and needs of your workforce.”

In addition, it’s important to recognize that the workforce is changing, and we can benefit by staying open and receptive to new ideas.

They measure the success of their programming by simply observing the participation rates and the overall morale of the office.

“UE truly has a culture like none other!” explains Johnson, “You get the opportunity to own your own destiny here and if you work hard and have a can-do attitude opportunity will always come your way.”
